Septoplasty is a common nose surgery that corrects a deviated septum (the structure between the two nasal passages) to improve the patient’s breathing. The septum, which is made of tissue and bone to support the airflow through the nose, can cause breathing issues during the day and at night (snoring and sleep apnea).

Surgical Technique

Surgical Technique
During septoplasty surgery, the deviated septum structure is reshaped through an incision inside the nose. The surgeon will lift and separate the septum tissue to fully access the misaligned bone and cartilage. The surgeon will close the incision with sutures and place a splint inside the nose to align the septum as it heals. Some surgeons may use nose packing to help control bleeding.

During/After Surgery

As an outpatient procedure, septoplasty is performed in an accredited surgical facility under general anesthesia. The surgery typically takes between 1 and 2 hours. Recovery takes between 7 and 10 days. Patients should expect bruising and swelling under the eyes and around the nose immediately after the procedure. The final results will not set in for 3 months or longer after surgery.

Septoplasty Denver Reviews

My nose is so cute and natural looking – Always wanted a rhinoplasty, also struggled for a long time with breathing and figured a septoplasty would suit me. After doing a lot of research into the best doctor I landed on Dr. Shah. His experience and credentials are beyond what I saw for other doctors in my area.

Life changing! I can breathe so much easier! – Dr. Shah gave me a septoplasty to repair my deviated septum. Before the surgery I could barely ever breathe out of my right nostril and both nostrils were frequently completely blocked, especially if I was eating hot food. This surgery changed my life! I can breath so much easier! It has completely changed how I get to experience eating. My only regret is that I waited so long to get this procedure.

He greatly improved the asymmetry and made the size fit my face – Back in my twenties, my nose was broken and I had a Rhinoplasty. The asymmetry in the tip and general size were not addressed at that time. I also had chronic sinus issues from a deviated septum. Fast forward almost 20 years, and A LOT of research, I decided to go with Dr. Shah. He specializes in challenging cases like mine. Not only, was he, and all his staff kind and professional throughout the process, he is a true artist. He greatly improved the asymmetry, and made the size fit my face. My husband says it is the “movie star version” of my old nose, and I couldn’t agree more. My breathing has also already improved! I expect over the next several months to have improved sinus issues as well, as the internal swelling goes down. The only regret is not having done this sooner and I couldn’t recommend him more!!! Thank you Dr. Shah!

Dr. Shah is Brilliant and I Love my Results – I couldn’t be happier with my experience with Dr. Shah! I had a large hump in my hose that had bothered me for over 30 years. I thought about it every single day, every time I caught my reflection, every time someone took a picture. I hated having my profile visible and constantly had my hair in my face to try to hide it. I was really nervous to have my nose done because I didn’t want it to look overdone, too small, or like it didn’t fit my face. Dr. Shah did an incredible job of listening to exactly what I wanted, and making my nose fit my face so well that my closest friends were blown away by how natural it looks. I feel so confident and happy!I got the Ultrasonic Piezo Rhinoplasty, which is a gentler, more refined method. I had minimal swelling and in just seven days from my surgery I was out and about excited to put my new face into the world. Dr. Shah and his staff are wonderful – professional, warm, knowledgable, responsive. Literally my only regret about this procedure was not doing it sooner. I’m so grateful to Dr. Shah for helping me feel like the best version of myself.

Septoplasty FAQs

How much is surgery for a deviated septum?

The cost of surgery for a deviated septum, known as septoplasty, can vary widely depending on factors like location, the surgeon’s experience, the complexity of the procedure, and whether it’s performed in a hospital or outpatient facility. In the United States, the price can range from a few thousand dollars to over $10,000. It’s important to check if your health insurance covers this surgery, as many insurers consider it a medically necessary procedure if it’s causing significant health issues. For the most accurate cost estimate, give us a call at (720) 575-1603.

Can septoplasty fix breathing problems?

Even though septoplasty is used to correct breathing problems, some patients undergo septoplasty to correct medical issues from a deviated septum. However, a loss of cartilage or bone and cartilage grafting can change the appearance of the nose. Highly skilled surgeons with experience in septoplasty know the technique needed to make natural-looking, subtle changes.

What are the common causes of septal deviation?

The most common cause of a deviated septum is birth trauma because most individuals are born with a deviated septum. As people age, the symptoms gradually worsen. Even though a majority of adults have a deviated septum, not everyone has severe symptoms that require surgery. Another common cause is trauma received later in life.
